How to Select a Desk Chair
If you spend a lot of time at your desk doing work or using a computer it is imperative that you have a good, comfortable desk chair to sit in. Here are some tips on how to select a desk chair:
1. Decide on a type of desk chair. Desk chairs come in different categories including ergonomic, reclining, high-backed, and forward leaning. Ergonomic desk chairs will provide lumbar support, while high-backed and forward-leaning desk chairs help support your upper back and neck. Reclining chairs will allow you to lean back.
2. Decide on whether you want a mobile or stationary desk chair. Mobile desk chairs have a set of casters at the base. Mobile chairs are either full motion or roll-only. Roll-only chairs only have a caster that moves across the floor. A full motion chair will allow you to swivel the chair itself without rolling the casters on the base also.
3. Consider the height. Your desk chair should allow you to sit in it comfortable with your feet firmly on the floor. You can get a desk chair that has a foot rest if you need a higher desk chair.
4. Consider the armrests. Some desk chairs have straight armrests, others are curved. If you use the armrests often, consider getting a desk chair that has cushioning on the armrests.
5. Consider the upholstry. Leather is a popular choice for desk chair material. Many people choose cloth desk chairs as well. Make sure the color matches the room you will be using it in.
